In September 2024, Typhoon Yagi ravaged Viet Nam, claiming over 300 lives and injuring nearly 2,000 people. Among the devastated families were siblings Thi Dưa, four years, and Thi Dính, six years, and their parents, whose home was swept away due to the landslide caused by the typhoon.
The disaster affected over 2.65 million children, leaving them vulnerable to hunger, dangerous diseases, and trauma. However, UNICEF, in partnership with the Government of Viet Nam and humanitarian organisations, rushed to the ground and led emergency relief efforts.
Our immediate response included distributing critical items such as water purification tablets, hygiene supplies, which are included in the Family Survival Gift Box, and essential items to families like Thi Dưa and Thi Dính, who lost their home and livelihoods, providing them with vital support during the critical hours of the disaster. Our global reach, spanning 190 countries, and strong local partnerships enabled a rapid and effective response during this major emergency.
With your generous support and gifts like the Family Survival Gift Box, you can help children in urgent need survive and thrive.
