Helping Young Girls Take Charge of Their Own Futures

Girls learning in a classroom © UNICEF/UN0512369/Dejongh

Young girls in Kisangani, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, are learning how to read and write at the Social Promotion Centre that aims to empower young girls.

Today, twice as many girls as boys are unable to attend school due to gender-based inequalities.

Education is a vital tool that enables young girls to escape violence and poverty and regain control of their lives. In partnership with the government , UNICEF has given young girls in Kisangani the opportunity to participate in courses specialising in literacy, life skills and trade.

Despite the extraordinary benefits of attending school, too many young girls continue to be restricted by their inability to access even the most basic necessities.

By giving a Girl Empowerment Pack you can help to equip young girls with these necessities to help them overcome gender barriers and access life-changing education they deserve.

Give young girls a chance for a better future.
